SHRUTI CPA

Need Help Completing Your 2025 Extended Tax Return?

If you filed an extension but have not completed your 2025 tax return, the October 15, 2026 filing deadline is approaching.

Shruti CPA is selectively accepting extended individual tax returns involving stock compensation, investment income, rental properties, multiple states and international tax reporting.

Our practice works with high-income professionals, executives, startup employees, business owners and investors whose returns require more than basic tax preparation.

Limited availability is based on the complexity of the return, the completeness of your records and the time remaining before the filing deadline.

Tax Returns Involving RSUs, ISOs and Other Equity Compensation

Stock compensation frequently creates reporting issues that are not apparent from the tax forms alone.

A Form 1099-B may show an incorrect or incomplete cost basis. ISO exercises may create Alternative Minimum Tax even when no shares were sold. An employee who moved between states may also need income allocated based on where services were performed during the applicable grant-to-vest or grant-to-exercise period.

Our review may include:

  • RSU compensation and stock-sale reporting
  • ISO exercises and Form 3921
  • Qualifying and disqualifying ISO dispositions
  • NSO exercises and sales
  • ESPP ordinary-income adjustments
  • Cost-basis reconciliation
  • AMT and AMT-credit carryforwards
  • Federal and California treatment
  • Multi-state allocation of equity compensation
  • Estimated-tax and withholding considerations

An Extension Gives You More Time to File—Not More Time to Pay

For most individual taxpayers who requested a federal extension, the deadline to file the 2025 federal income tax return is October 15, 2026.

California also provides an automatic extension to October 15, 2026 for individual income tax returns. However, an extension to file does not extend the deadline to pay tax. Federal and California tax payments were generally due April 15, 2026.

If you expect to owe tax, filing sooner may help prevent additional penalties and interest from continuing to accumulate. We can review your extension payments, estimated tax payments and withholding as part of preparing your return.

Specialized Support for Complex Extended Returns

Moving between states or working in multiple jurisdictions can affect how wages, stock compensation, business income and capital gains are reported.

We assist with matters such as:

  • Part-year resident returns
  • Nonresident state returns
  • California residency and sourcing
  • Remote-work income
  • RSU and option income earned across multiple states
  • Rental property located in another state
  • Credits for taxes paid to another state
  • State withholding that does not match the final allocation

A state appearing on a W-2 does not always determine the final tax treatment. The underlying dates, work locations and residency facts may need to be reviewed.

An extended return may require additional work when rental or investment information arrives late or is incomplete.

We help taxpayers address:

  • Rental income and operating expenses
  • Property basis and depreciation
  • Land and building allocations
  • Properties converted from personal to rental use
  • Passive-activity limitations
  • Short-term rental reporting
  • Partnership and S corporation K-1s
  • Publicly traded partnerships
  • Capital gains and loss carryovers
  • Suspended passive losses
  • Investment interest and charitable contributions reported through K-1s

Where necessary, we may request closing statements, prior depreciation schedules, K-1 supporting statements or other documentation before completing the return.

FAQs

1. What is the deadline for filing my extended 2025 tax return?

For most individual taxpayers who received a federal filing extension, the deadline is October 15, 2026. California also provides most individual taxpayers with an automatic extension to October 15, 2026.

2. Does a tax extension also extend the time to pay?

No. An extension provides additional time to file the return, but it generally does not extend the time to pay. Federal and California tax payments were generally due April 15, 2026. Penalties and interest may apply to unpaid balances.

3. Can you take over a return that another CPA started?

Possibly. We will need to review the work already completed, confirm whether the prior CPA is still engaged and determine what information remains outstanding. A draft return, supporting workpapers and open-items list may be required.

4. What documents will you need?

We generally request your prior-year tax return, 2025 tax documents, extension and estimated-tax payment confirmations, brokerage statements, equity-compensation records, rental-property information, K-1s and applicable foreign-account or investment details. Documents are uploaded through our secure portal.
